Eusebio Ayala Prepares for Weekend of Tradition, Memory, and Festivities

The city of Eusebio Ayala is gearing up for a vibrant weekend packed with activities to commemorate its 256th anniversary of foundation. The festivities also honor the patron saint, San Roque de Montpellier, and mark the 157th anniversary of the historic Battle of Acosta Ñu.

The celebrations commence on Saturday, August 15, with a pet blessing ceremony led by the San Roque parish at 3:00 PM. Later, at 5:00 PM, the historical play "Mitã Pypore" will be presented. This production recreates the events of the Battle of Acosta Ñu, fought on August 16, 1869, aiming to keep alive the memory of the child martyrs of that battle. The play, performed annually since 2014 by actors from various towns, draws a significant audience.

The evening continues with a sung vigil and a serenade for San Roque de Montpellier at the local parish church, starting at 8:00 PM. Sunday, August 16, is the main day of the commemorations. Festivities begin at 7:00 AM with a laurel wreath offering, followed by the central mass in honor of San Roque at 7:30 AM, officiated by Bishop Ricardo Valenzuela.

The day's events include a solemn tribute ceremony at the central plaza at 9:00 AM, followed by a traditional student, civic, and military parade on Acosta Ñu street at 9:30 AM. The weekend's agenda concludes at 4:00 PM with the "Barrereña" patronal horse riding event, organized by the "Niños Mártires de Acosta Ñu" Riders Association. Eusebio Ayala is recognized for its rich history, culture, and gastronomy, particularly its famous chipa, a staple of Paraguayan identity.
