Everton Sign Grealish but Miss Out on High-Profile World Cup Striker

Everton completed a deal for Jack Grealish but failed to land the widely discussed United States World Cup striker Folarin Balogun as the English transfer window closed late Tuesday.

The Liverpool club presented Grealish, the creative midfielder, on another loan from Manchester City. Everton also sold striker Beto to Italian side Fiorentina.

Balogun, however, turned down Everton at the final stage. According to Sky Sports, the clubs had reached an agreement and the player had completed a medical examination, but he still decided against the move.

Balogun was the player whose suspension was lifted during the World Cup finals after United States President Donald Trump called FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Chelsea also missed a late deal with Monaco. The London club wanted Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara as a replacement for Argentine Enzo Fernández, who had moved to Manchester City.

Sky Sports and the BBC reported that Monaco withdrew because it would sell either Camara or Balogun, not both. At that point, Balogun appeared set to join Everton.
