Everton snatch 2-2 draw against Manchester United with stoppage-time stunner

Ainsley Maitland-Niles turned his first Everton appearance into a memorable one, blasting the ball into the top corner from 20 metres in the sixth minute of stoppage time to earn a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

United had started the match more strongly and came close when Bruno Fernandes struck the crossbar from inside the area. Everton’s Thierno Barry also had a chance late in the first half, but headed over from close range, leaving the teams level at 0-0.

United needed just over a minute of the second half to take the lead. Bryan Mbeumo slipped past several Everton defenders and sent a precise shot from just outside the box beyond the goalkeeper.

The match remained 1-0 until the 83rd minute, when Tyrique George produced an excellent finish from a tight angle on the right side of the area. United responded quickly. Substitute Benjamin Sesko headed in Luke Shaw’s cross in the 88th minute, apparently putting the visitors on course for victory.

Everton had the final word. Mazraoui cleared the ball only as far as Maitland-Niles, who struck a perfect shot into the junction of post and crossbar. Senne Lammens could do little to stop it, and the points were shared.
