Ex-KPSC Chief Faces New Probe in Veterinary Officers Fraud Case

Shivaraj Shankarappa Sahukar, the recently suspended chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), is now embroiled in a fresh criminal investigation concerning the alleged rigging of recruitment for 400 veterinary officer positions. This new case adds to his existing legal troubles, which led to his suspension earlier in July.

The Vidhana Soudha police initiated the First Information Report (FIR) based on a complaint filed by veterinary officer Manjunath. The complaint accuses Sahukar, along with other commission members and individuals, of manipulating the recruitment process through bribery, favoritism, and examination fraud. The allegations suggest that appointments were unfairly granted to relatives and candidates who allegedly paid bribes to secure government jobs.

Sahukar's suspension stemmed from earlier complaints alleging he facilitated the appointment of his two daughters as industrial extension officers, despite a conflict of interest. The Governor has since referred his case to the President for further action under Article 317 of the Constitution. In a related development, one of Sahukar's daughters is reportedly seeking anticipatory bail in connection with accusations of using a potentially false income certificate to obtain reservation benefits.

Police Inspector SP Kumara Swamy confirmed that the investigation is in its preliminary stages, with authorities examining both documentary and digital evidence. The complaint specifically points to irregularities in the veterinary officer recruitment examination conducted in January 2026, alleging that approximately 29 candidates gained appointments through illicit means. The probe is expected to scrutinize digital records and evaluate evidence related to the alleged manipulation of OMR answer sheets and the sharing of confidential examination information with intermediaries.

Based on a complaint filed by one Dr Manjunath regarding alleged irregularities in the recruitment of veterinary officers, we have registered an FIR against former KPSC Chairman Shivaraj Shankarappa Sahukar, certain KPSC members and others. The investigation is at a preliminary stage, and all aspects of the complaint, including documentary and digital evidence, are being examined. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
