Ex-SEP official Marx Arriaga denounces another month without severance, announces return to teaching

Former Mexican education official Marx Arriaga has publicly denounced the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) for failing to pay his severance package for a second consecutive month. Arriaga, who previously served as the general director of Educational Materials for the SEP, took to social media platform X to express his frustration.

If someone is looking for a house in Juaritos, I am practically giving away the patrimony I built as a teacher.

In July, Arriaga revealed that he was compelled to sell his home because the SEP had not settled his severance pay, leaving him unable to cover bank interest payments. He described his home as being "practically given away" by a teacher who had built his assets. He also lamented the situation of his former colleagues, stating that they too were dismissed and left "in the street."

Despite the ongoing dispute over his severance, Arriaga announced his return to the classroom. He shared a video of himself in his former office, reviewing documents, and addressed his former collaborators, promising that "justice will come someday." He declared, "Censorship is over! Arriaga stated that he will be teaching in Ciudad Juárez, accompanying the education of students who will not forget the principles of the "4T and Mexican Humanism." He previously accused the governor of Chihuahua of making "inopportune and thoughtless statements" to prevent his return to teaching at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez, where he had been on academic leave since 2018.
