Experiencing Taitung's Slow City Life: 'Walk into Taitung' Event Opens

The "Walk into Taitung" event, designed to showcase the tranquil lifestyle and distinct culture of Taitung County's Xinshing Village, officially opened at the Hakka Culture Park. This initiative focuses on the village's emerging industries and ecological preservation, inviting both local residents and visitors to gain a deeper appreciation for Taitung's unique charm.

The event commenced early Saturday morning, with participants embarking on a 5-kilometer guided walk. The route highlights key areas within the Xinshing settlement, including the Mu Ye Resort and the Wild Wan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association, which is dedicated to the rescue, medical treatment, and educational efforts for wild animals in eastern Taiwan. Participants also learn about the Beinan River basin, the vital water source for Taitung and its famous rice production, and cycle along the scenic rice paddies.

Through the event, local residents can better understand their hometown, and others can come to love and cherish Taitung.

Further along the route, the Taitung Irrigation Canal's fish ladders and sedimentation tanks offer a rare opportunity for close observation of fish migration. The tour concludes back at the Hakka Culture Park, emphasizing the area's innovative local industries, particularly those driven by vanilla cultivation in recent years. The event aims to foster a greater connection between locals and visitors, encouraging them to cherish Taitung's rich heritage and natural landscapes.

According to Taitung County Magistrate Lin Jian-hong, the "Walk into Taitung" activity serves to help local residents better understand their homeland while also inspiring outsiders to fall in love with and treasure Taitung. Councilor Chen Hong-zong added that beyond its renowned rice, Taitung's profound human warmth is best experienced through such direct, immersive activities. The Taitung County Government encourages people nationwide to visit Taitung and experience its unique human touch and natural scenery, noting that the "Walk into Taitung Slow City" has become a significant local brand event.
