Experts to debate future of energy amid key challenges in the electric sector

Paraguay's electricity sector is at a critical juncture, prompting experts and authorities to convene for discussions on its future. Two distinct forums will delve into generation alternatives, investment strategies, and the regulatory landscape, addressing the nation's pressing energy needs.

The discussions come at a decisive moment for Paraguay, marked by ongoing negotiations over Itaipú Dam's Annex C, a sustained increase in electricity demand, and debates surrounding the potential creation of a Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Hydrocarbons, alongside an Energy Regulatory Body. These events aim to tackle the urgent requirements of the national energy matrix.

The first forum, titled "Electric energy to ensure the continuity of development in Paraguay," will take place on August 27 at the Paraguayan Center of Engineers. Organized by the Institute for the Development of Thought "Patria Soñada" (IDPPS), the Paraguayan Center of Engineers (CPI), and the Institute of Paraguayan Professionals in the Electrical Sector (IPPSE), it seeks to scrutinize and propose solutions for infrastructure needs, financing, and the diversification of generation sources to align with economic growth.

Subsequent sessions will feature analyses on the current situation and perspectives of the electrical sector, new generation sources, and alternative energy options such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and natural gas. Discussions will also cover the legal framework and financial analysis pertinent to the sector.
