Extremely Dangerous Tornado Strikes Eastern Wisconsin, Causing Widespread Damage

An "extremely dangerous" tornado tore through eastern Wisconsin on Monday afternoon, leaving a trail of significant damage and knocking out power for thousands. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado's path, which included areas near Appleton, Menasha, and Lake Winnebago, approximately 30 miles southwest of Green Bay.

The storm impacted numerous communities, including Neenah, Sherwood, Harrison, and Stockbridge. Eyewitness accounts described the sky turning as dark as night, with one resident in downtown Appleton calling the scene "ominous." Images and videos from the affected areas showed debris scattered across highways, twisted metal, and heavily damaged warehouses and homes, with roofs and siding torn off.

Gordon Hintz, the top elected official in Winnebago County, stated that emergency officials were still conducting searches but were not aware of any fatalities or injuries. He noted reports of completely destroyed buildings and overturned vehicles. "Obviously, the footage looks devastating," Hintz said, acknowledging the significant damage to power lines and infrastructure.
