Ezechukwu eyes World U-20 glory

Nigerian sprinter Miracle Ezechukwu is setting her sights on the World U-20 Championships after a strong start to her Commonwealth Games campaign. Ezechukwu opened her Commonwealth Games debut by winning the women's 100m heats in Glasgow with a time of 11.32 seconds from lane eight, securing an automatic spot in the semi-finals. She will be joined by fellow Nigerians Blessing Ogundiran and Rosemary Chukwuma in the next round.

Ezechukwu described her Commonwealth Games appearance as a blessing and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the global stage. She revealed that she felt confident before the race after reviewing the line-up and focused on running her own race despite the challenging cold conditions in Glasgow. "When I saw the list, I was like, I’m good to go. It was just about running my race. The cold is too much, but I focused and forgot about everything. No matter what, we still run," she stated.

Looking beyond the Commonwealth Games, Ezechukwu identified the World U-20 Championships as a major target for the season. "My biggest target this year was this Commonwealth and World Junior. When I’m done here, I’m moving to World Junior, and I believe and trust that I’m going to win something over there," she said. Her confidence has been bolstered by a demanding season that included competing at the World Relays and the African Senior Championships, where she gained valuable experience racing against established stars.

After making a notable debut at the Commonwealth Games, she aims to maintain her momentum before shifting her focus to the World U-20 Championships, where she hopes to add another significant achievement to her burgeoning career.
