Ochonogor cleared for Commonwealth Games long jump

National champion Prestina Ochonogor will compete in the women's long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after organizers reversed a decision that had ruled her ineligible. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria confirmed the development, ending days of uncertainty for the 19-year-old.

Organizers had initially stated that Ochonogor could not be added to the final entry list because she was not included in Nigeria's original submission. This came after Nigeria sought to include both Ochonogor and Ruth Usoro following the withdrawal of multiple Commonwealth medallist Ese Brume. The request was initially rejected.

However, the issue has now been resolved, making Ochonogor eligible for the women's long jump final. She secured her place on Team Nigeria by winning the National Athletics Trials in June with a leap of 6.57m. This clearance is a significant boost for Nigeria's athletics contingent, which anticipates a strong performance in Glasgow.
