F1 result: Lando Norris dominates in Hungary for his first win of the 2026 season

Lando Norris of McLaren claimed his maiden victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit. The British driver crossed the finish line ahead of Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli.

The race began with intense action, as is typical in recent Grands Prix. Verstappen, starting from pole position, lost the lead on the first lap to his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. However, Verstappen managed to regain the position mid-race. The early laps saw significant jostling, with Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari gaining positions, while Charles Leclerc of Ferrari lost three places.

Strategic pit stops played a crucial role. Hamilton was the first to pit, followed by Verstappen. Hamilton briefly took the lead after Verstappen's stop, but Verstappen soon overtook him on track. Piastri, who pitted before Norris, lost considerable time due to contact with Carlos Sainz of Williams while lapping the Spaniard. This allowed Norris to emerge ahead of his teammate after his own pit stop.

The race saw Piastri forced to retire with 14 laps remaining due to a gearbox failure. Meanwhile, championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who started seventh after a penalty, climbed into podium contention with a one-stop strategy. He benefited from Piastri's retirement and a subsequent virtual safety car. Hamilton, attempting to secure a podium spot, pitted under the virtual safety car but received a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, ultimately finishing fifth behind Leclerc.
