Families isolated after arson destroys wooden bridge in Pedro Juan Caballero; governor promises new construction

A wooden bridge in the San Rafael settlement of Pedro Juan Caballero has been burned down, leaving around 180 families completely isolated. Residents gathered at the site of the destroyed structure, urging state institutions to provide assistance and demanding the construction of a new bridge.

The precarious wooden bridge had been in poor condition for some time, and its destruction has exacerbated the critical situation for the inhabitants. For two years, residents have been protesting the lack of a safe crossing over the stream.

The governor of Amambay, Juan Acosta, has promised to resolve the issue by constructing a new reinforced concrete bridge. Community leaders report that Acosta met with affected residents and pledged that construction would start this week, with completion expected by October or November. Acosta confirmed that work would begin this week, though he did not provide an exact date. He stated that Itaipú Binacional would finance the necessary materials, and machinery from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications would be used, with labor provided by both ministries.
