Family of missing Rohingya footballer fear he is among 500 believed dead in Myanmar shipwrecks

The family of Rohingya footballer Siraz Ullah fears he is among 500 refugees who perished at sea after attempting to reach Malaysia. The 24-year-old sent a final voice message to his relatives, expressing his distress and asking for prayers before boarding a boat in late June.

In his last message, Siraz Ullah reportedly said, “I can’t tolerate this life.” He was fleeing the escalating violence and persecution in his home country of Myanmar, where the Rohingya minority faces attacks from the military, rebel armies, and criminal gangs. His journey was a desperate bid for a safer future.

Siraz Ullah is now believed to be among approximately 500 Rohingya refugees who have vanished after setting sail for Malaysia. This incident underscores the extreme risks undertaken by Rohingya people who attempt to escape their dire circumstances in Myanmar, often embarking on dangerous sea voyages in search of safety and opportunity.
