Farewell Details Announced for "Armonika" Ensemble Leader Stasys Liupkevičius

The family and loved ones of Stasys Liupkevičius, a revered figure in Lithuanian folk music and former leader of the ensemble "Armonika," have shared details for his farewell. Visitors wishing to pay their respects can do so at the "Nutrūkusi Styga" funeral home in Vilnius on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m.

A memorial mass will be held in his honor on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Chapel in Pilaitė, Vilnius. On Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., Liupkevičius's urn will be taken to its final resting place at the Karveliškių cemetery.

Liupkevičius joined the "Armonika" ensemble in 1969 and led it for over a decade, from 1981 to 1993. During his tenure, he was instrumental in recording more than 700 songs and appeared in over a dozen music videos. His musical journey began in early childhood, mastering the accordion at the tender age of four.

For many years, Liupkevičius was considered the soul of "Armonika," a musician and creator whose performances resonated with multiple generations of listeners. His contributions have left a lasting legacy on Lithuanian folk music.
