Funeral Program Announced for Lithuania's First Post-Independence Prime Minister

The funeral ceremony schedule for Kazimira Prunskienė, a pivotal figure in Lithuania's modern history and its first prime minister after regaining independence, has been released by the Government Chancellery. The public will have an opportunity to pay their respects on Wednesday from 2 PM to 8 PM and on Thursday from 9 AM to 1 PM at St. John's Church in Vilnius.

A Holy Mass will be offered for the deceased at the church on Wednesday at 6 PM. The funeral procession will commence on Thursday at 1 PM, following the removal of the urn containing Prunskienė's remains. The procession will proceed to Antakalnis Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest in the Alley of Signatories.

Kazimira Prunskienė, who signed the 1990 Act of Independence, passed away at the age of 84. Her active political career began in 1988. Following a stroke in February 2012, she withdrew from public life in Lithuania.

Prunskienė's passing marks the end of an era for a politician who played a significant role during Lithuania's transition to independence. Her leadership and contributions during that critical period are remembered as foundational to the re-established nation.
