Fatal crash in Rivera: 22-year-old man dies after car and truck collide

A young man, 22 years old, lost his life in a tragic traffic accident that occurred early Wednesday morning in the department of Rivera, Uruguay. The fatal incident took place at approximately 4:20 AM on Route 5, near kilometer 453.200.

The victim was driving a car southbound when it collided frontally and laterally with a truck carrying a semi-trailer. The impact caused the car to veer off its trajectory and ultimately strike a guardrail. Tragically, the driver of the car sustained severe injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

Authorities from Policía Caminera and local police units were present to secure the area, manage traffic flow on the route, and conduct necessary technical investigations. The driver of the truck, who was traveling northbound, was unharmed. A breathalyzer test administered to the truck driver yielded a zero result, confirming he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

The route remained closed for several hours while emergency teams worked at the crash site. It was reopened to traffic early in the morning. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
