Fatal traffic accident in Ano Liosia kills 17-year-old, injures another

A tragic traffic accident on August 25 in Ano Liosia, Greece, claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and left others seriously injured. The crash occurred on Fylis Avenue as the vehicle, carrying five young people, was traveling from Chasia towards Ano Liosia.

One 17-year-old girl sustained severe fractures to her ribs and pelvis and is currently in the intensive care unit at KAT Hospital. Two other passengers, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl, are hospitalized for 24-hour precautionary observation, though their condition is reported as stable.

Initial investigations suggest the 19-year-old driver lost control of the car, which was reportedly speeding. The vehicle veered off the road after hitting a curb, mounted the sidewalk, and collided with a lamppost, which was uprooted by the force of the impact. The car came to a stop a considerable distance from the initial collision point.

The driver tested negative for alcohol, but blood samples were taken for toxicology tests. A case file has been compiled against him. As he is serving his military service, the military prosecutor was informed and ordered his release pending the completion of the preliminary investigation, with the case file to be forwarded to military justice.

This incident has reignited concerns about the safety of Fylis Avenue, a road known for previous serious accidents, particularly involving young people. The scene of the crash is marked by remnants of the destroyed vehicle and tributes, a somber reminder of the road's dangerous history.
