Fatal traffic accident on Route 8: a man died after a truck collided with a pickup truck

A fatal traffic accident occurred on Sunday night, August 23, 2026, on Route 8 in Lavalleja, Uruguay, claiming the life of a 37-year-old man.

The collision involved a head-on crash between a truck from Brazil traveling northbound and a pickup truck moving in the opposite direction. The driver of the pickup truck, the sole occupant, died at the scene. The 32-year-old Brazilian truck driver, who was transporting wood panels, suffered minor injuries and passed an alcohol breathalyzer test with zero blood alcohol content.

Authorities are still investigating the exact causes of this fatal crash. The road was cleared several hours after the incident.

In a separate road incident reported by the traffic police, an army truck carrying 17 soldiers collided with a pickup truck on Route 102 and Camino Fortet. The soldiers in the army truck were unharmed. The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries, including a collapsed lung, while her passenger reported neck pain but was treated at the scene and released.
