Fences to be erected around Klaipėda schools

The Klaipėda municipality in Lithuania has initiated a public procurement process to fence five schools, aiming to bolster child safety within educational premises. The project, expected to be completed by mid-July, will see fences erected around schools located on Paryžiaus Komunos Street, Baltijos Avenue, Mokyklos Street, and Reikjaviko Street.

Schematics attached to the tender documents reveal that the fencing will involve both the renovation of existing fence fragments and the construction of substantial new barriers. This initiative is primarily driven by the need to ensure a secure environment for students. However, the implementation of such measures has not been universally welcomed by all residents.

Concerns have been raised by some local inhabitants regarding the new fencing. For instance, after a fence was installed around the Liudviko Stulpino Gymnasium last spring, nearby residents expressed dissatisfaction. They reported having to alter their daily routines and take longer detours, as they could no longer cut through the schoolyard as they had previously done.
