FEO flags key election challenges

Fiji's Elections Office (FEO) is prioritizing information management, operational readiness, and public confidence as it prepares for the nation's next General Election. Deputy Supervisor of Elections Ana Senimoli highlighted these as the most pressing challenges, emphasizing the critical need for clear, accurate, and consistent messaging, especially given shifting electoral timelines.

The deferment of local government elections has added complexity, making robust public communication even more vital. Senimoli stressed that maintaining public trust is an ongoing effort, not a task confined to election periods. "That’s probably the most difficult area to do… while we are going through preparation, the public still have that trust in us and not only that but maintain that trust throughout the electoral processes," she stated.

The FEO is also focusing on simplifying how electoral information is conveyed to voters, recognizing that technical jargon can be overwhelming. To address this, the office has prepared pocket guides designed to be simple and visually engaging. The goal is to eliminate confusion and equip voters with practical, accessible information before polling day.

As preparations intensify, the FEO acknowledges that success hinges not only on logistical execution but also on ensuring the public understands and trusts every step of the election process.
