Ferrari Luce Electric Car Sells Out in China Amid Design Controversy

Ferrari's first electric vehicle, the Luce, has generated significant controversy due to its polarizing aesthetic, drawing criticism from analysts and the public alike. However, the Italian marque appears unfazed, with CEO Benedetto Vigna expressing strong confidence in the model, stating, "You have to see the Luce to understand that it has nothing to do with Chinese electric vehicles or those of other brands."

The company's strategy, which seems to embrace the idea that even negative publicity can be beneficial, has apparently paid off. According to Chinese media reports, the Luce has completely sold out its initial allocation of 88 vehicles destined for the Chinese market in 2026. This sell-out occurred almost immediately after order books opened, and notably, before the model was even officially unveiled in China.

The Luce is equipped with cutting-edge technology, featuring four electric motors, one for each wheel, delivering a combined output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. This powertrain enables performance figures comparable to Formula 1 cars, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Its top speed surpasses 300 km/h.

Powering these impressive capabilities is a 122 kWh battery, providing an estimated range of up to 530 kilometers. Furthermore, the Luce supports ultra-fast charging, capable of replenishing the battery in just 20 minutes. The car is priced at nearly half a million euros.
