Ferry Fire Survivors Arrive in Surabaya as Rescue Operations Continue

The KN Masalembo vessel has docked at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, East Java, carrying 62 survivors rescued from the KM Mutiara Sentosa II ferry fire. These individuals were initially brought ashore from Masalembu Island.

Upon arrival Tuesday afternoon, the survivors were met by a joint team of officials who facilitated health checks and registration. Medical personnel were on standby to provide immediate care for those suffering from exhaustion or requiring further treatment after the ordeal.

According to Basarnas, the national search and rescue agency, the operation has so far accounted for 233 individuals found alive. Tragically, five people have been confirmed dead. The search and rescue efforts, along with post-fire handling, are ongoing, with a primary focus on the safety of all victims and ensuring they receive necessary assistance.

The KM Mutiara Sentosa II ferry experienced a fire, prompting a large-scale evacuation and rescue operation. Joint SAR teams are continuing their work to manage the aftermath of the incident.
