FG, Oyo lawmaker empower 210 youths with digital skills, laptops

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency and the esteemed lawmaker representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Stanley Olajide, has launched a significant digital literacy and empowerment program in Oyo State. This initiative trained 210 youths in crucial areas such as digital marketing, cybersecurity basics, remote work, and technology-enabled entrepreneurship, directly addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment.

I serve as a representative and remain actively engaged in committees related to ICT, cybersecurity, and other areas of technology. Technology is not just a field for me; it is a passion.

Olajide, a prominent figure and Governorship aspirant, articulated a clear vision for Ibadan to become the technology capital of the South-West, emphasizing his commitment to establishing tech and innovation hubs. He highlighted that this program is not merely a one-off event but a foundational step in a larger strategy to integrate Nigerian youth into the global technology landscape, including advanced fields like artificial intelligence and blockchain.

A key priority is how we can empower our youth, both men and women, by equipping them with the skills they need to succeed. This is central to everything I do, because the future of Nigeria depends on them.

The program's practical approach includes financial support for participants, ranging from N30,000 to N50,000, provided in cash to ensure immediate access and transparency. This hands-on support is designed to help beneficiaries launch their digital ventures, demonstrating a tangible commitment to their success. The lawmaker also indicated plans for further phases, with additional cohorts scheduled to scale the program's impact, aiming for up to ten phases before the year's end.

Regarding this programme, we have about 210 beneficiaries participating today, with an additional 150 set to begin next week. This will bring the total to approximately 360 participants in this phase. We plan to run up to ten phases before the end of the year; this is the second phase, following an earlier one held late last year.

This endeavor underscores a critical local perspective: that investing in digital skills and providing foundational support is paramount for Nigeria's future. While international coverage might focus on broader economic trends, this program highlights a grassroots effort to empower the next generation, recognizing that their success is intrinsically linked to the nation's progress. Each participant is receiving financial support, between N30,000 and N50,000, to help them get started. I made it a point that these funds be given in cash to avoid any issue related to network failures or delays in transfers, ensuring transparency and that everyone receives what they are entitled to.
