FIFA Defends Infantino Amid 'Baseless and False' Allegations

FIFA has issued a strong denial of allegations against its president, Gianni Infantino, labeling them as speculation and untrue. The statement came after reports from The Telegraph alleged an inappropriate relationship between Infantino and a female employee during his tenure as UEFA general secretary. The reports also claimed that the employee's MBA studies were funded and that she received a six-figure severance package upon leaving UEFA.

FIFA's spokesperson told The Telegraph that Infantino categorically denies these claims. In a late-night statement on its website, FIFA suggested that the president is being targeted. "The FIFA President has been democratically elected by FIFA member associations and continues his mandate within their purview. It is becoming increasingly clear that some are engaged in an organized and persistent effort to weaken FIFA and its President," the statement read.
