The denial addresses claims published by The New York Post, which, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Infantino had sought support from Trump and his administration. This alleged outreach reportedly occurred amid growing criticism following the collapse of a plan to sell a portion of the World Cup's commercial rights.

According to the report, Infantino had repeatedly attempted to contact Trump by phone since the proposal's failure last Friday but was unsuccessful. The article further suggested that Infantino felt "isolated" due to a barrage of negative media coverage. The relationship between Trump and Infantino has been noted, particularly after Infantino presented Trump with the first FIFA Peace Award in December 2025.
