Fifth Prototype of China's J-36 Fighter Jet Spotted, Analysts Say

Fresh images and footage circulating online suggest a fifth prototype of China's J-36 sixth-generation combat aircraft may have taken to the skies. If authentic, these visuals provide new insights into the rapidly evolving design as Beijing intensifies its race for air superiority against rivals like the United States.

The latest footage, appearing this month, indicates further modifications to the aircraft's nose, air intakes, engine nozzles, and landing gear. This suggests its developer, Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC), is actively refining the design through successive prototypes as flight testing accelerates.

Aviation analyst Andreas Rupprecht noted that the structural differences between early and recent prototypes make it unlikely that the sightings represent a single aircraft undergoing repeated modifications. "It is still difficult to assess this with any certainty," Rupprecht stated. "But if one takes the reports from reliable sources as a basis, there is indeed some strong evidence to support it."
