Fiji Airways explores local carbon projects

Fiji Airways is actively investigating the potential of developing local carbon projects to meet its emissions reduction obligations. Under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), airlines operating eligible international routes are required to offset their emissions.

Instead of purchasing carbon credits from international markets, Fiji Airways is exploring whether high-integrity, locally sourced carbon projects can fulfill CORSIA's requirements. This approach is driven by a desire to retain both the economic and environmental advantages within Fiji, fostering domestic sustainability initiatives.

Should this exploration prove successful, it could pave the way for the establishment of Fiji's first dedicated carbon market focused on the aviation sector. This move aligns with global efforts to decarbonize aviation while also prioritizing local development and environmental stewardship.
