Fiji Carnival Marks 15 Years Fighting Crime and Drugs

The FMF Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival is marking its 15th anniversary, celebrating a decade and a half of uniting communities in the fight against drugs and crime. What began as a local carnival has evolved into a significant platform dedicated to empowering young people, strengthening community bonds, and encouraging positive life choices through awareness and education. The upcoming 2026 carnival will unite contestants, communities, police, and government agencies under the theme "Duavata for Everyone’s Safety and the Fight Against Drugs." Maria Kumar, FMF Group Marketing Manager, emphasized the event's ongoing importance in tackling social challenges. She stated that the carnival is more than a celebration; it's a vital platform that educates, inspires, and unites communities in their shared mission to combat drugs and crime. Kumar believes that collective community action is key to building a safer and brighter future for all Fijians. FMF remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster youth empowerment and promote positive lifestyles through education and opportunity, reinforcing the message to reject drugs and crime. Carnival Chairman Satish Kumar expressed pride in reaching the 15-year milestone, acknowledging the hard work of organizers, committee members, and the people of Macuata. He highlighted the crucial partnership with police and government agencies, noting that contestants also play a role in raising awareness about the impact of drugs. This year, 18 contestants are competing across various categories, with the week-long event culminating in the crowning of winners at Subrail Park Ground 2 in Labasa on August 1st.
