Fiji Girl Guides celebrate a century of service

The Fiji Girl Guides movement is commemorating a significant milestone: 100 years of leadership, friendship, and community service. A national camp is currently underway, uniting 120 girls from across the nation for two days of engaging activities.

Sashi Kiran, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, emphasized the profound significance of this year's camp, marking a century of Guiding in Fiji’s Southern Division. She described the participating girls as the living legacy of a 100-year promise, belonging to a global movement while embodying distinct Fijian values.

During the event, Kiran addressed critical issues facing young people today, including the pervasive threats of illicit drugs, cyberbullying, and online abuse. She strongly encouraged the girls to reach out to trusted adults whenever they feel unsafe and reminded them of the importance of protecting their personal information online.

Participants have journeyed from diverse regions of Fiji, including Cakaudrove, Bua, Macuata, Koro in the Lomaiviti Group, Lau, and the remote highlands of Naitasiri and Navosa, underscoring the widespread reach and impact of the Girl Guides movement across the archipelago.
