Fiji leads India's global flag relay for 80th Independence Day

Fiji has initiated a global endeavor, becoming the first country to raise the Indian national flag for the Suryapath Tiranga initiative. This global flag relay celebrates India's 80th Independence Day, connecting Indian communities across the world as the sun rises.

Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, stated that Fiji is honored to lead this significant relay. "This is the first place where we hoisted the Indian national flag. We are really delighted to be able to hoist the Indian flag here in the India House in Suva, being the first amongst all our missions," he said.

Mehta emphasized the importance of India's 80th Independence Day, noting the nation's substantial progress in healthcare, digital infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy, and physical infrastructure since 1947. He also underscored the enduring 147-year relationship between India and Fiji, recognizing the contributions of people of Indian origin to Fiji's development and their role as a vital link between the two nations. The Suryapath Tiranga relay is set to continue through 54 other countries.
