Fiji Rugby launches foundation to support players

Fiji Rugby has significantly bolstered its commitment to player welfare with the establishment of the Fiji Rakavi Foundation. This new initiative is designed to provide comprehensive support to athletes, extending well beyond their playing days.

Board chair John Sanday unveiled the foundation, emphasizing its focus on education, welfare, and facilitating a smooth transition into life after rugby for both male and female players. "Today, we proudly launch the Fiji Rakavi Foundation, a commitment to ensuring that our players, both men and women, continue to receive support long after their playing careers have ended," Sanday stated.

The foundation will offer access to educational pathways, medical assistance, rehabilitation services, and transition programs. A particular emphasis is placed on supporting women's rugby, with Sanday acknowledging the vital contributions of Fijiana players and the importance of equal opportunities.

Key to the foundation's rollout is the introduction of the Life After Rugby & Sports (LARS) program, developed in partnership with Australian Pacific Management and Training. This program will provide structured education and training, equipping athletes with skills and qualifications applicable beyond their sporting careers. Additionally, Fiji Rugby has launched a new Rugby Management System to enhance governance, player registration, welfare tracking, and overall program delivery, all driven by a vision to prioritize people within the sport.
