Fiji transport minister urges road users to take extra care during school holidays

Fiji's Assistant Minister for Transport, Naisa Tuinaceva, is calling on all road users to prioritize safety as traffic increases during the school holidays. He emphasized that road safety is a collective effort involving drivers, passengers, parents, and children.

While acknowledging a decline in road fatalities compared to the same period last year, Tuinaceva stressed that every life lost is a tragedy. He specifically urged parents to educate their children on safe road practices, highlighting it as a current concern due to the number of accidents. "Even though fatalities have dropped compared to the same period last year, but death is death," he stated.

Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers are also reminded to put passenger safety first and remain vigilant. The police will be visible on busy roads, enforcing traffic laws. Long-distance drivers are advised to take regular breaks, and everyone is reminded not to drive under the influence of alcohol or impairing substances.
