(Film review) Mutiny: Jason Statham delivers too few throat punches

Jason Statham remains the only classic action star who regularly gets his films into cinemas, but “Mutiny” suggests he may be taking on too many projects. Delo’s Vikend gives the film 2 out of 5, arguing that it feels rushed both in its script and its action sequences.

The action is competently choreographed, yet there simply is not enough of it. And, as any Statham fan would confirm, there are far too few throat punches. The film also largely lacks humor, apart from a few comments near the end.

“Mutiny” combines betrayal, murder and human smuggling, but the review calls its story shallow and predictable. The villains’ plans do not hold together, particularly when they unfold on the open sea.

At nearly 60, Statham is understandably less agile than he once was. Still, the review notes that he has also shown himself in the past in comedies and hopes to see more of that side next year. He is scheduled to appear in “The Beekeeper 2” and the action meta-comedy “Jason Statham Stole My Bike,” two titles the reviewer considers promising. Jean-François Richet directed the 95-minute British action film, which also stars Annabelle Wallis, Chaneil Kular and Jason Wong.
