Fined 140,000 TL for traffic offense while asleep at home

A lawyer in Kayseri, Emin Burak Kekeç, successfully had a 140,000 TL traffic fine overturned after proving he was asleep at home when the alleged offense occurred. The fine was issued for 'makas atma,' a dangerous driving maneuver involving weaving between traffic lanes.

Kekeç received a notification on his mobile phone on February 20th, stating he had been fined 140,000 TL for the offense, which was supposedly committed at 8:00 AM. At the time, Kekeç claims he was asleep in his home. He subsequently filed an appeal with the Kayseri Magistrate's Court of Peace, submitting security camera footage from his apartment building as evidence.

The footage clearly showed that Kekeç's vehicle was parked in front of the building during the time the fine was issued. He stated that he only left his home at 8:55 AM, nearly an hour after the alleged infraction. The court reviewed the evidence and canceled the fine.

Kekeç shared his experience to encourage others facing similar administrative or traffic penalties. He urged citizens to "never hesitate to seek their rights" if they believe they have been wrongly fined, emphasizing the importance of utilizing all available appeal processes.
