Fingerprint in Police Station Restroom Suspected to Belong to Officer Accused of Falsifying Case Closures

An unidentified fingerprint discovered on the ceiling of a women's restroom at the Jeju Western Police Station is being investigated as potentially belonging to a police officer accused of fabricating missing persons case closures. The fingerprint was found in a women's restroom at the station where Officer Bu, in his 30s, was stationed.

Officer Bu is currently facing charges related to falsely closing missing persons cases, including those of a 30-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man. He was booked on suspicion of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes for allegedly entering the women's restroom on July 22. A female employee reported the incident at the time, and Officer Bu reportedly stated he entered because he "urgently needed to use the restroom."

We requested fingerprint analysis from the National Forensic Service about ten days ago and are currently waiting for the results. We plan to investigate Officer Bu based on the outcome.

Following the discovery of the unknown fingerprints in the restroom, police have submitted them to the National Forensic Service for analysis. They suspect the prints could belong to Officer Bu and are awaiting the results to proceed with further investigation. A police official confirmed that the request was made about ten days ago and that they plan to question Officer Bu once the results are available.

Officer Bu was recently arrested on charges of dereliction of duty, forgery and use of electronic records, and obstruction of justice. These charges stem from his alleged actions in fabricating the closures of the missing persons cases. The investigation into the fingerprints is a separate but related inquiry into his conduct.
