Finnair staff allegedly threatened photographer with flight ban at Helsinki airport

Antti Loukko is contemplating a criminal complaint following an altercation at Helsinki-Vantaa airport concerning his right to photograph in a public space. The dispute arose when Loukko attempted to resolve an issue with Finnair's baggage service after a travel bag belonging to a relative opened during a flight.

According to Loukko, he took a photo of two Finnair officials with his phone to document the situation. This action led to the officials summoning Securitas security guards, one of whom allegedly threatened Loukko with a lifetime flight ban if he refused to delete the image.

The baggage service area is located in a public part of the airport, and the right to photograph in public spaces is protected by freedom of speech laws in Finland. However, such incidents often lead to friction, with individuals feeling pressured or harassed.

Loukko emphasized that he needed the photo solely for the purpose of resolving the baggage claim.
