Finnish defense report: Russia to become more openly hostile by 2040

Finland faces a future of escalating hostility from Russia, with a new defense research report projecting an increasingly confrontational stance by 2040. The report, titled "Era of Unrest: Finnish Future Operating Environment 2040," analyzes the security landscape Finland may encounter in the coming decades. It highlights the critical role of international alliances in bolstering Finland's security. However, the researchers also point to inherent uncertainties regarding the reliability and extent of support from allied nations during times of crisis.

Finland has already taken steps to bolster its border security, constructing approximately 200 kilometers of fence along its eastern border to deter illegal crossings. This defensive measure underscores the perceived threat and the nation's proactive approach to safeguarding its sovereignty amidst a shifting geopolitical climate.
