Fire at Pingtung car recycling plant controlled after nearly 3 hours

A fire broke out at a car recycling plant in Pingtung County, Taiwan, on the evening of August 28, sending plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering explosions. The blaze, which started around 7:26 PM, required a significant response from emergency services.

Firefighters from multiple stations, totaling 30 personnel along with 30 volunteer firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. They encountered intense flames and heavy smoke emanating from a large quantity of discarded vehicles, tires, fuel, and plastic materials. The risk of rapid spread and explosion was high due to the nature of the materials.

After nearly three hours of intensive firefighting efforts, the blaze was brought under control. Fortunately, no one was trapped or injured during the incident. The explosions heard were later identified as originating from airbags within the discarded vehicles. Heavy machinery, including excavators, was deployed to dig through debris and extinguish any remaining hot spots.
