Fire breaks out in mined area on Syria border

A fire broke out in a grassy mined buffer zone south of Akçakale, along the border with Syria’s Tel Abyad. The flames spread quickly across the area, sending dense smoke that could be seen from the district center and briefly causing panic.

Fire crews were dispatched after receiving a report of the blaze. Because the site was mined, they could not approach the fire directly for security reasons. Instead, they began fighting it from a safe area near the railway tracks.

After prolonged efforts, the crews brought the fire under control and started cooling operations. Firefighters continued working to determine how the blaze began.
