Fire destroys at least 60 hectares in Indonesia's Mount Bromo national park

A fire has been burning through Indonesia's Mount Bromo national park since early August, destroying at least 60 hectares of land. The national park, known for its active volcanoes and popularity with tourists, is located in the East Java province.

The disaster mitigation agency has deployed resources to combat the blaze, including a fire truck, a water tank, and a drone for monitoring and water spraying. However, the challenging, steep terrain of the active hot spot, combined with heavy winds, is making extinguishing efforts difficult and risks spreading the fire further.

Authorities closed sections of the park to visitors on August 3. As of August 6, the cause of the fire and whether there have been any casualties remain unknown. Images from the scene show extensive damage, with charred land, discolored foliage, and damaged trees.
