Fire Destroys Boats, Vehicles at Indramayu Fishing Port; Investigation Underway

A fierce fire engulfed the Karangsong Fishing Port in Indramayu, West Java, on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The blaze destroyed three fishing boats, a Toyota Fortuner, two motorcycles, piles of fishing nets, and a semi-permanent stall.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. According to Kapolres Indramayu, AKBP Prianggo PM, through Kasi Humas Polres Indramayu, AKP Tarno, the fire started during a fuel transfer from a tanker truck to four storage tanks at the fishing boat repair yard. A suspected short circuit in a submersible pump generated sparks, igniting the solar fuel in a storage tank. The spilled fuel caused the fire to spread rapidly.

Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, visible from over three kilometers away, blanketing the area and reducing visibility for emergency responders. Firefighters from Indramayu Regency, along with police and local residents, battled the flames for approximately two hours before bringing the fire under control.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, material losses are estimated to be in the billions of rupiah and are still being calculated. The police have secured the scene, are questioning witnesses, and collecting evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.
