South Korea Endures Intense Heatwave, Temperatures to Reach 37 Celsius

Much of South Korea is grappling with a severe heatwave, as daytime temperatures are forecast to hit 37 degrees Celsius on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The national meteorological agency issued warnings for the sweltering conditions affecting the nation.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) also anticipates heavy rainfall, potentially reaching 100 millimeters, in parts of the eastern coastal and mountainous regions of Gangwon Province. Seoul and central South Korea may see up to 40 millimeters of rain. While the rain might offer temporary relief, temperatures are expected to rise again afterward.

In response to the extreme heat, authorities have taken precautionary measures. Some driving tests have been temporarily reduced or suspended to prevent health issues among participants. The combination of high temperatures and humidity poses a significant risk.
