Fire Guts Restaurant, Residential Building in Anambra

The Anambra State Fire Service has confirmed two separate fire incidents that occurred in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. The first incident involved the popular Restaurants House, located behind Old English, Agu-Awka. The fire, which started around midnight on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, ravaged the building's roofs, furniture, and equipment. Firefighters were promptly dispatched after receiving a distress call at 12:45 am and successfully contained and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures. The cause of this fire remains undetermined.

In a similar incident, a one-storey residential building in Ngozika Estate, Awka, also caught fire on Friday. The fire caused extensive damage to the roofs, household furniture, and parts of the building's walls. Again, the cause is unknown, and thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The Anambra State Fire Service, led by Chukwudi Chiketa, reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety precautions. These incidents highlight the ongoing need for robust fire safety measures and rapid response capabilities within our communities.

The distress call was received at approximately 0045 hours of Wednesday, 15th April, 2026, upon which fire service personnel were immediately mobilised and dispatched to the scene.
