Three dead, one missing after catamaran collides with sailboat near Split

A severe maritime accident in the Split Channel, between the Croatian islands of Brač and Šolta, has claimed at least three lives and left one person missing. The collision involved the passenger catamaran Krilo Eclipse and a sailboat carrying multiple individuals. The sailboat sank immediately after the impact, triggering a massive search and rescue effort involving various maritime services and nearby vessels.

The incident occurred shortly before noon, with the catamaran, one of the fastest passenger ferries on the Croatian coast, reportedly traveling on its regular route. Following the accident, the operating company, Krilo, canceled several of its scheduled services. The catamaran is described as a large vessel, 56 meters long, capable of carrying up to 440 passengers and reaching speeds of up to 42 knots.

Unofficial reports suggest the victims may be Czech nationals, though this has not been officially confirmed.

The exact circumstances leading to the collision remain unknown. An investigation is underway, with the deputy county prosecutor set to lead a site inspection alongside traffic experts and police investigators.
