Fire investigation at Belgrade's Enjub shopping center identifies primary sources on upper floor and attic

An investigation is underway into a significant fire that ravaged the Enjub shopping center in Belgrade, destroying 32 businesses and leaving a trail of destruction.

The Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade announced that the fire's cause remains undetermined. However, an expert in fires, explosions, and accidents was dispatched to the scene to pinpoint the origin, cause, mechanism, development, and spread of the blaze. The expert's initial findings suggest the primary ignition points were located on the upper floor and in the attic space directly above two business units.

Authorities have secured video footage from city security cameras, individual businesses, and eyewitnesses. The investigation also involves examining installations, electrical consumers, and collecting samples to rule out or confirm the presence of flammable materials. Building inspectors have cordoned off hazardous zones pending further decisions on the affected parts of the facility.

During the initial response, employees were present in two business premises when the fire broke out. The prosecutor's office stated that interviews with local business owners, tenants, and witnesses are ongoing as the inquiry continues. The fire, which occurred on June 15, spread across the first floor of the shopping center located in New Belgrade.
