Fire service rescues 16 from collapsed building in Kano

Sixteen people, among them three unconscious children, have been rescued from a collapsed residential building in Kano State. The incident occurred early Saturday morning in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area, when a building measuring about 20 by 30 feet suddenly gave way.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the rescue operation, stating they received an emergency call at approximately 4:32 a.m. Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene and successfully extricated the trapped individuals from the debris. The rescued children were identified as five-year-old Affan Yusuf, seven-year-old Hassana Yusuf, and nine-month-old Ummulkursum Yusuf.

Upon receiving the report, men of the Service from the Headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene.

Officials have not yet determined the exact cause of the building's collapse, and an investigation is currently underway. The fire service took the opportunity to remind residents about the importance of adhering to building safety regulations and taking necessary precautions, particularly during the rainy season when structures can become more vulnerable. The agency stressed the need for the public to observe safety measures to mitigate the risk of similar incidents.
