Firefighters contain 45,000 liters of diesel, prevent explosion

Firefighters in Tamale, Ghana, successfully prevented a major disaster on Tuesday by containing approximately 45,000 liters of diesel spilled from an overturned fuel tanker. The incident occurred at Adubili Yili, where the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly to the scene.

Crews from the Northern Regional Headquarters Sub-Station worked to free the tanker's driver and his mate, who were trapped inside the vehicle. Both individuals were safely handed over to the National Ambulance Service for necessary medical attention. Simultaneously, firefighters took measures to cool the tanker and contain the spilled diesel to prevent any fire outbreak or explosion.

During the emergency response, a secondary collision occurred involving two buses. One of the buses crashed into a parked GNFS fire appliance, causing damage to its air system. Fortunately, no additional casualties were reported in connection with this secondary crash.

The GNFS Northern Region has issued a statement urging all motorists to exercise caution when approaching accident scenes. They emphasized the importance of providing emergency responders with adequate space to operate safely and effectively during critical situations.
