Firefighters respond to blaze at Bethlehem Catholic High School in Saskatoon

Firefighters battled a significant blaze at Bethlehem Catholic High School in Saskatoon late Friday night, causing major damage to a construction area intended for new portable classrooms. The fire department received the call around 10:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames engulfing the attached construction zone.

Multiple hose lines were deployed to combat the fire, and the severity of the situation prompted fire command to call for a second alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene. The quick response from emergency crews was crucial in containing the fire and preventing further, more extensive damage to the main school building.

The new portable classrooms sustained significant damage and that there was water and smoke damage in other areas of the school.

Officials from Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS), the board overseeing the school, stated it is too early to determine the full impact of the fire on the start of the academic year. They are awaiting a thorough assessment of the damage once the site is deemed safe by fire investigators. The school community has been informed, with the principal noting significant damage to the new portables and smoke and water damage in other areas.
