RCMP Report Possible Fatality from Massive Summerland Wildfire

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating a potential fatality linked to the rapidly growing Bald Range wildfire west of Summerland, British Columbia. The fire, which ignited around 5:15 p.m. on Friday, has forced thousands of residents to flee their homes.

Authorities were alerted to the possible fatality after receiving a report from an impacted resident in the Meadow Valley area. "Hazardous conditions are present in the region, and police, along with the BC Coroners Service, are investigating to confirm," stated the RCMP in a release. Officers are working closely with the affected family during this difficult time.

The Bald Range fire experienced rapid growth, necessitating immediate tactical evacuations by Penticton and Summerland RCMP members, supported by additional units from Kelowna, West Kelowna, BC Highway Patrol, Federal Policing, and the CFSEU-BC Uniformed Gang Enforcement Team. While evacuations of neighborhoods and communities were largely successful, challenges arose in areas cut off by the wildfire.
