Fireworks Workshop Explosion in Morelos Kills One, Injures 10

A powerful explosion tore through a fireworks workshop in the indigenous town of Ocotepec, north of Cuernavaca, Morelos, on July 29. The blast claimed the life of one woman and left 10 people injured. Among the injured, one man suffered a head injury from a collapsing wall, and a minor received hospital treatment for burns.

State Civil Protection reported that relevant authorities will investigate the incident to clarify the facts. Rescue efforts, debris removal, and area assessments are ongoing. The public is urged to allow emergency vehicles clear passage and to rely on official channels for information.

The loud explosion prompted an emergency response from rescue and security forces in the town, which operates under customary law. Firefighters, Civil Protection, and Public Security personnel from Cuernavaca arrived at the scene. Civil Protection Morelos confirmed coordination with firefighters and Civil Protection of Cuernavaca municipality, the Mexican Red Cross, the National Guard, and the Secretariat of National Defense. These forces cordoned off the area and began inspections to control the situation and rule out additional risks to the population and adjacent properties.
